March
March, comes in like a lion......
Well, it's a bit cold for lions to be out & about,
with fierce blizzards and sub zero temperatures all over Europe at the moment. It's so much nicer to stay snug indoors if you can.
Me? Well I'm lucky to be able to do just that.
And here's why...
I have a passion for printing. Linoprinting in particular. Actually it's something that's been lurking inside me for yonks.
I gave up my job as a Lab Technician and went back into full time education ages ago. I followed a Graphic Design Course for four years, and enjoyed every minute of it.
'Design for Printing' was, and is, 'My Thing'.
Life's path took me elsewhere though, so my career of Graphic Designer never got off the ground.
But that was Then, This is Now.
I''l never be an 'All Singing - All dancing' Designer..

So, I decided to step off the 9 til 5 treadmill, work part time as a Tour Guide and pick up the threads of design & print...and I'm LOving IT!
fox lino monoprints, hand pulled. |
I love hand printing my work, the 'reveal' is just amazing, every single time! My old kitchen wooden spoon really comes into it's own for this. Of course there are barrens for this job too, but I am particularly fond of this old spoon. I began pulling my prints with this, and it works a treat!
the LuxemBIRD edition is growing! |
I spend a great deal of time designing, printing then folding my ArT to SeNd cards. Especially the printing, ( it's that wooden spoon again) which can be quite physical at times:) I sign each one individually and package them too.
A labour of love, the idea is that folk may send an original hand printed piece of art to a friend or loved one, or family member who is perhaps far away something to hold, to frame to cherish.
Something different...
This is something new for me, fabric printing.

trying my newest LuxemBIRD on fabric. |
I've got loads of ideas for this li'l LuxemBIRD...but for now it's all 'up in the air' (awful pun) in the experimental stages,
I've no clue where it will end up!
Also I've gotten myself a new piece of kit, which I will reveal in my next blog post.
Now whist I won't be putting my wooden spoon away for a while, it might be a bit of a game changer... it's something I've been dancing around for a little while, We shall see..
More about that next time!
In the meantime, I'm hoping that March, having come in claws drawn, begins to feel more lamb-like as the proverb says she should:)
